Sarasota to add more red light cameras

Sarasota, Florida - Red light cameras: some cities are putting them in, while others are taking them out. But in one Bay area community, law enforcement officers see the cameras as a way to save lives.

Sarasota Police Officer John Lake says the pictures don't lie. "It's clear, very clear video... the caption on the plate to who owns the vehicle," says Officer Lake.

Third suspect arrested in Dec. 11 shooting

Sarasota, FL -- A third suspect was arrested Dec. 17 for his involvement in the Dec. 11 shooting that sent three people to the hospital.

Detectives say they developed enough information to arrest 17-year-old Darrenton Trebbles on charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and 3 counts of Attempted Murder.

Trebbles joins 20-year-old Rashad Steen and 22-year-old Bobby Sharpe as suspects in the shooting in the area of N. Washington Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Reports: Sarasota Herald-Tribune up for sale

Sarasota, Florida -- The New York Times Co. reportedly confirmed it is in "advanced discussions" to sell the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, along with 15 other newspapers under the Regional Media Group, according to a story published Monday in the Herald-Tribune.

The story reports the New York Times Co. is looking to sell its print properties to Halifax Media Holdings LLC.

Sheriff's office donates to local charities

Sarasota County, FL -- On Friday, Dec. 16, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office presented donations to local charities and non-profit groups that work closely with the agency and assist families in this community.

The Property Section presented a check for $6,700 to All Faiths Food Bank. The donation was the result of seized or recovered cash that went unclaimed, and per state statute could be distributed to a qualifying charity.

Two turtles released on Lido Beach

Sarasota, Florida -- They were found malnourished and sluggish, but Friday, two loggerhead sea turtles swam away strongly into the Gulf. Both turtles, nicknamed Faith and Felicity, had been rehabilitated by Mote Marine Laboratory.

Second suspect arrested in shooting that injured 3

Sarasota, FL -- Detectives have arrested a second suspect in the Dec. 11 shooting on N. Washington Boulevard that injured three men.

According to detectives, 22-year-old Bobby Sharpe, of Ellenton, was arrested Friday for his involvement in the shooting. The first suspect arrested, back on Dec. 13, was 20-year-old Rashad Lee Steen.

Police say around 1 a.m., on Dec. 11, officers heard multiple gunshots in the area of N. Washington Blvd. and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way. Witnesses reported hearing between 40-50 gunshots.
