New College of Florida offers 'Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings'

Sarasota, FL -- New College Library Association (NCLA) and American Jewish Committee (AJC) proudly present Fighting the Fires of Hate: America and the Nazi Book Burnings, an exhibition from the collection of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

The exhibit will open Feb. 7, 2012, and close on March 30, 2012, at the Jane Bancroft Cook Library on the New College of Florida campus (5800 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota, FL 34243).

Sarasota, FL -- The City of Sarasota and Jonathan Parks Architect is hosting a reception for the Palm Avenue Garage public art murals on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 4 p.m. The reception will begin on the roof and move to each floor to view the artwork.

The public is welcome to attend.

Professional artists painted a mural on each of the five levels of the garage over the past several weeks.

Sarasota, FL -- Diana Krall has moved all of her Florida dates, including her Wednesday, Feb. 15 date at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

The new date will be Tuesday, March 27 at 8 p.m.

The pop-jazz songstress was recently invited by the legendary Paul McCartney to collaborate on a project for the upcoming Grammys! We are thrilled for Sarasota favorite Diana Krall to participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity and still be able to be with us at the Hall this year.

The SRQ Media Internship Program is a core component of the corporate philosophy and focuses on providing intensive training, hands-on experience, and practical knowledge to high school students, undergraduates and post graduates in the areas of marketing, editorial, design, magazine production and photography.

Publisher Wes Roberts on SRQ's internship initiative, "We at SRQ Media believe that adding young skilled professionals to the workforce is just another part of how we as an organization can contribute to our community."

By providing real-life work experience and embracing a hand's on approach, the internship program is a mutually beneficial experience. SRQ Media receives a wellspring of youthful enthusiasm and new perspective, and interns learn first hand the ins and outs of the publishing industry.

SCAT wins national marketing and communications award

Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) won a first-place award in the 2011 annual AdWheel Awards competition sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Presented at APTA’s  awards ceremony during its annual meeting and expo in New Orleans, the award was for SCAT’s Summer Youth Pass program in the print category of advertisement-promotion for public transportation systems with four million or fewer annual passenger trips.

The AdWheel Awards honor outstanding excellence in public transportation advertising, marketing and communications. 

“Recipients of this esteemed award represent creativity to the highest standards in public transportation marketing and communications,” said APTA President William Millar. “The AdWheel Awards recognize successful delivery of innovative and engaging public transit communications.”

There were nearly 600 entries in this year’s competition.
