Crime

Sarasota, Florida -- A man is being held without bond Friday after a blind woman says she woke up to him sexually assaulting her.

The 22-year-old woman told Sarasota County detectives she went to bed Wednesday night while her roommate and his friends continued to drink and hang out. She said she woke up early the next morning as Gilberto Perez was assaulting her.

She told her roommate what happened and when he confronted Perez he fled the home.

Detectives found Perez, 33, walking in the area of Bee Ridge and Beneva roads around 1 p.m. Friday.

He was taken into custody where he was questioned by detectives and is currently being held without bond for Sexual Battery against a Helpless Victim.
