Sarasota, Florida - Sarasota County is known for its beautiful beaches, parks and natural areas, but keeping all those destinations looking their best requires a huge effort.

Keep Sarasota County Beautiful (KSCB) has finished gathering data from the Great American Cleanup held on April 27, and the program coordinator is reporting that more than 680 volunteers picked up 6,371 pounds of trash, recyclables and other refuse at locations across the county.

Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota High School Singing Sailors Chamber Choirs competed in the Florida Vocal Association State Concert Performance Assessment and received a "Superior" in all categories in which they competed. 

The full SHS Chamber Choir received one "Superior" and two "Excellent" ratings.

The SHS Choral Department will present the 2013 Final Bow End of the Year Concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. The concert will feature a wide variety of music that will showcase the songs the helped them win so many accolades. 

Sarasota, Florida -- Time to saddle up and get ready to steer clear of cancer. 

This year's American Cancer Society's 2013 Relay for Life of Lakewood Ranch will take place at the Y of Lakewood Ranch on May 18-19. 

The theme for this year is "Steering Clear of Cancer," and the relay will have a country western feel to it.

The event will honor survivors as well as their caretakers and the ones that have passed away in a luminaria ceremony. 

There will also be a chili cook-off, costumes and much more.
