Mobile health services coming in August | Events
Sarasota, Florida -- The Sarasota County Health Department's Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at eight sites around the county during August.
Services also will be available at the Ready, Set, Grow! Infant to Kindergarten Family Fair on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Westfield Sarasota Square Mall, 8201 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The fair will be held at the mall's main entrance between JCPenney and Yoder's Marketplace.
The services offered at the established sites include diabetes education and screening, blood pressure tests, pregnancy testing, HIV and tuberculosis testing, adult immunizations, and health education. The staff also assists individuals who lack medical insurance and do not have a health care provider to find a medical home for ongoing health care.
No appointment is needed. Some services are free, including HIV rapid testing with results in 20 minutes. Other services are provided on a sliding-fee scale based on income. A registered nurse is available at all sites.
While these services are most often provided in a 40-foot-long bus, there are times when services are provided inside the facilities visited.
