Girl's Volleyball: East Lake unveils state championship banner

Tarpon Springs, Florida -- The East Lake Eagles celebrated their back-to-back state championship titles in girls volleyball this past Thursday, with the unveiling of a 2011 state championship banner.

After a very brief ceremony, in front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Eagles got back to action on the court, defeating district rival Sarasota Riverview, 25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 23-25, 15-17.

Venice H.S. Volleyball receives donation from local business

Venice, Florida - Neal Communities has donated $1,300 to the Venice High School Volleyball program. The funds will be used for equipment, software, and other needs of the team.

The Lakewood Ranch-based home builder is now actively building in three communities in Venice.

Pat Neal first became aware of the team's need from Bill Waddill, of the design firm Kimley-Horn and Associates. Waddill's daughter, Abigail, plays on the Venice freshman team.

PHU Hurricanes blows past Riverview(Sarasota) 27-7

In front of a packed house in north Pinellas, the Palm Harbor University Hurricanes took care of Riverview(Sarasota) Friday night. 

Early on, both teams flashed some defense as Palm Harbor got on the scoreboard first with a field goal.  But before the quarter was out, Palm Harbor made it 10-0 on a 1-yard touchdown from Billy Pavlock.

In the second quarter, Riverview answered back with a 3-yard touchdown to make it 10-7.  But as the first half came to a close, Palm Harbor added 10 more points to make it 20-7 at the half.

In the third quarter, Palm Harbor put the icing on the cake with a 35-yard bomb from Billy Pavlock to Austin Reed. 

With the win, Palm Harbor improves to 4-2 and 1-0 in district play.

Lakewood Ranch tops Tarpon Springs 41-33

Bradenton, FL --  Tarpon Springs made the long bus ride to Manatee County on Friday night to take on the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs

The Spongers would take an early lead after a Kenny Blanch 35 yard TD run. Spongers up 14-3.

But Lakewood Ranch came back. McKenzie Hathaway would score on a 5 yard TD run, and the Ranch came through with the big win at home. Mustangs beat Tarpon Springs, 41-33.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lakewood Ranch shuts out Boca Ciega 19-0

It was the district opener for Boca Ciega and Lakewood Ranch, a huge game for both teams, and while everything that could go wrong for Boca Ciega did, everything was nothing but right in a surprise shutout for Lakewood Ranch.

The Lakewood Ranch defense held the Pirates to just 101 total yards of offense, while Mustang running back Mackinzie Hathaway rumbled 19 yards for a first quarter touchdown to give Lakewood Ranch an early 7-0 lead.

The Pirates are 1-2, 01 in Class A, District 7 play.  Lakewood Ranch used their huge offensive line to control the game and shut down the Boca Ciega pirates 19-0.
