Update: The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says Emmelia is in the custody of her mother and biological father. They are enroute to Texas, where they will meet with authorities to establish the child's safety and wellbeing.

SARASOTA, Florida -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding a missing 10-year-old girl.

Deputies say Emmelia Ward's grandfather has been caring for her over the past year. The child's biological father, Keller Ward, reportedly got into an altercation with the grandfather and escorted Emmelia to his vehicle, then drove off.

Because of the suspicious manner in which the incident occured, and because of an outstanding civil order related to visitation, authorities are concerned about the child's safety.

Deputies say to be on the lookout for a large grey SUV.
