SARASOTA, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol says a man driving drunk killed a runner who was jogging on the sidewalk. It happened Saturday afternoon along Midnight Pass Road in Siesta Key.
Donna Chen, 53, of Sarasota died.
Investigators say 22-year-old Blake Talman of Bradenton was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima, trying to get away from another car accident he was involved in, when he hit Chen.
Troopers say after the first accident, Talman slammed into a metal pole, hit Chen, then hit a street sign. They say he then slammed into a Ford Escort that 18-year-old Ashley Mullins was stopped in near the driveway to St. Michael's Archangel Catholic church. The impact, they say, caused Talman to then slam into a telephone pole.
Mullins injuries were minor, but a passenger who was in Talman's vehicle, 24-year-old David Brewer, was listed in serious condition at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, Talman is facing more than a dozen charges ranging from hit and run to DUI manslaughter.
