Here's the official statement:
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is advising citizens of a suspicious incident that reportedly occurred near a school bus stop this morning.
A 12-year-old Sarasota Middle School student said she was waiting for her bus at Mesa Way and Longhorn Drive around 7:45 a.m., when a black truck pulled up. The girl said the driver rolled down the passenger window, blew her a kiss and told her not to tell anyone. The girl did not report the incident until 2:16 this afternoon.
She described the suspect as a Hispanic male, 30-40 years old with black hair and a star tattoo on his shoulder, and said he drove north and then east on Bee Ridge Road.
The Sheriff's Office would like to remind parents to walk children to the bus stop or have them walk in groups. Students who are encountered by strangers should report the incident right away so law enforcement can search for the suspicious person or vehicle.
Anyone with information on this incident is encouraged to call Criminal Investigations at 941-861-4900 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 941-366-TIPS (8477), or online at www.sarasotacrimestoppers.com or via text message by texting TIP109 plus a message to CRIMES (274637).
