Neighborhood meeting for proposed Walmart Supercenter store

Sarasota, Florida -- The neighborhood along the Ringling Boulevard area near downtown Sarasota is invited to a community meeting to discuss the proposed Supercenter Walmart store.

A smaller version of Walmart's Supercenter stores is proposed for the space where Publix once occupied in the Ringling Shopping Center.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Payne Park Auditorium, 2100 E. Laurel St. The meeting runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County has contracted a fourth company for roadside mowing and median maintenance. The county says Natural Designs Landscaping of Palmetto will maintain the North Urban Zone and will begin work Monday, Aug. 13.

The county has restructured its mowing program by dividing the county into four zones and contracting a landscaping company for each one.

FEMA opens disaster recovery center in Sarasota County

Venice, Florida -- A disaster recovery center is open in Sarasota County to help those whose homes or businesses were affected by Tropical Storm Debby. The center is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Representatives from the Florida Division of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies will be at the center to explain disaster assistance programs and help survivors apply for aid.

Sarasota County, Florida -- In the wake of Tropical Storm Debby, the federal government is making financial assistance available to individuals and businesses.

Individual assistance makes federal and state assistance available to individuals, families, and businesses that have experienced uninsured losses from declared natural disasters. While no damage was initially reported within the City of North Port, the following information is being provided in the event residents/businesses suffered a loss that they now find is not covered by homeowners/business insurance.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota Radiant Marathon convenience store is having a customer appreciation event this weekend that is sure to please motorists!

The gas station will be providing full-service fueling, window washing and lowered fuel prices. A DJ will also be on hand as well as vendors with info and free samples.

The station will also be collecting donations for Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the charity of choice for The Radiant Group.
