Joint celebration of Commuter Services Day and Try Transit Day

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and the Commuter Services program of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) are partnering on a joint celebration of Try Transit Day and Commuter Services Day on Thursday, April 25.

On that day, SCAT will offer free rides on all regular fixed-route or commuter Express buses. The standard single-ride fare of $1.25 for the fixed-route service and $2.50 for the Express service will be waived all day.

Tampa Bay, Florida--  The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) invites residents from seven local counties to join in upcoming talks about the region's future transportation plans and priorities.

TBARTA reps say they will host telephone "TownHall meetings" for 10 days starting Monday, April 1.

An automated system will call between 40,000 and 80,000 per night to extend an invite to the forum, and then TBARTA reps will take it from there to answer questions and respond to comments.

SCAT Express buses will get Wi-Fi access on March 4

Sarasota County, Florida -- Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) has announced riders will have wireless network access on SCAT's eight Express buses -- serving Express routes 100X North Port-Sarasota and 90X North Port-Venice-Sarasota - starting Monday, March 4.

Designed for commuters, the 40-foot Express buses are SCAT's largest buses, with seats for 40 passengers.

Sarasota, Florida -- Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will hold four meetings for the public to review and comment on potential changes to SCAT's Transit Development Plan.

The first one is scheduled today, Feb. 26, from 5 - 6 p.m. at the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice. Three more open house-style public meetings will be held in March.

Topics include future bus routes, planned services and existing services.

County: Use caution driving near Phillippi Shores Elementary

Sarasota, Florida -- Now that school's back in session, the county is urging motorists to take extra precautions when traveling through streets where sidewalks and other improvements are being constructed near Phillippi Shores Elementary School.

The county says placement of new sidewalks, driveways and drainage structures along sections of Mill Terrace, Shade Avenue, Palm Terrace, Fiesta Drive and School Avenue are expected to continue for several weeks.
